Simple edit of "idk when i'll be back again" [link]

Melissa is the model.
Because of the broad luminance range I wanted to change the photo to have a perceptive appearance. In other words, this is not just an improvement, but meant to resemble how the original photo makes me feel. I started right away with an almost-muddy black point and expansion, but I didn't like the midtone contrast of the face against the white point. A quick and easy freehand selection let me change that, and I think it really tied this together for me. Incidentally, I used the green channel rather than desaturate. Color wouldn't be relevant to this version. Rotated and cropped, to express what I'm seeing in the original.
I like this version. It has a lot of passion and expression. I don't have any technical comments on it, but from a viewers perspective, I think it is a well done shot and invokes a rebellious youth portrait. That's just how I see it.
aww, it looks good but i don't know half the things you said you did to it?? i mean i can see, but i have no clue about all the technicalities?? i'm not that smart yet!!! thanks tho, it sounds like you put a lot of work into it!!
About 5 to 10 minutes of editing, really. I give you all the credit. The technicalities are not important.
My philosophy is that each person applies their own tastes and aesthetic opinions to what they are seeing/hearing/experiencing. So, each person has a different perception. This is my way of showing you, "Here is what I see."
Zin, excellent insights. I'm curious, does it change after the first impression? If you look a second time, if you look closer, is it still rebellious?
No, I still see the same thing. It invokes images of a broken home, fed up and moving on to whatever life may hold. It still looks rebellious. I added it to my fav because it an extremely thought-provoking shot. Like any great work, it holds different views for different people...you've really done a fantastic job here.
